SCS EDIBLE GARDEN COURSE: 4-5:30pm Mondays in MAY
We all know that a freshly picked vegetable right from the garden tastes amazing, provides better nutrition and give us a sense of accomplishment like few other things. However, getting your own vegetable and herbs started can be intimidating.
The Edible Lab’s Edible Garden Workshop is a 5 week, 90 minute hands-on experience that will guide your child through planting microgreens, vegetables and herbs from seeds in the The Edible Lab's outdoor urban garden. We will learning about what plants need to grow and how to take care of and transplant our seedlings to have a successful edible garden. This interactive course will allow your child to gain the confidence they needs to grow edible plants from seeds in their own home garden. |
Week 1 We will be learning how to transplant herbs and vegetables from seedling and how to use amendments to make sure they have a successful start like tomatoes, parsley and celery.
Week 2 This week will focus on planting seeds of vegetables that cannot be started inside, such as: carrots, beets, radishes and turnips along with the amendments needed to make these vegetable grow strong and sweet. Week 3 The class will focus on interplanting vegetable to ensure that we get the most amount out of a garden and vegetables and herbs ripening at various times during the season. Week 4 In this lesson we will focus on directly planting summer vegetables into the garden like cucumbers, zucchini and edible flowers. Special focus will be on recognizing which herbs and flowers are companions to the vegetable we plant. Week 5 Our last class together we will look create a bean tepee for pole beans and plant them directly into the garden. We will also learn the proper way to harvest vegetables/herbs so that we can keep them growing healthy and what/how to plant into any empty spaces in the garden. |
